1This time we sat down with our Enemy Territory team captain who joined the ship few months ago, previously representing TLR and Impact organisations.
We talked about the team, their performance and chemistry, some previous games and of course about the future of Enemy Territory as a competitive game.
Its been over a month now that Anexis and your team have merged together. How are things going so far? Did you expect a long term relationship?
Things are going well, not amazing, but good enough for us to keep our number 1 spot. The lineup on paper is incredibly strong, yet our performances have not been to the standard to which we would have wanted. Fortunately, with the skill and experience the team has, we have been able to grind out results even when performing bad. The past week or so you can see the team is gelling and our performances have been much stronger. Sometimes there is a grace period, even with top players, where you have to adapt your gameplay to fit that of the others.
Were their any problems so far "in the locker room", did you find it hard to combine two teams in order to progress even more?
There have been no problems in the locker room so to say. Merging the 2 teams has resulted in a difference of opinions, but that is natural. We all have/had our own ways of playing and me and Night both kind of organised our teams respectively. Fortunately me and Night have always had a close relationship, even when being close competitors and he is definitely a great player and guy to have in your team. Like i said earlier, the team is gelling more as days and weeks go by which is obviously a good thing.
All of us followed you at the Battle for Britain tournament, especially the game versus MouseControl. What did you expect from the match and how has it been?
It was a very close game, one which we performed very poorly in. Again, due to the individual skill and experience (and luck) we managed to win and progress to the WB final where we met number 2 seeds g2p. We played much better in this game, motivation was high and we were keen to set the record straight. They chose their home map which we knew would be a problem for us. Fortunately we were strong on our map and the decider and managed to take the victory 4-2 to progress to the grand final.
In action
You haven't lost a round before the semi-final match, winning 4:0 in your first two matches. Are you really that strong?
We lost a round against mousecontrol and against g2p, the latter one being expected. Statistics such as rounds won etc. don't mean too much to me, its the victory that counts. With the teamplay improving, i would and always will be disappointed in dropping rounds against any opponents. We obviously set the bar high and expect the best from ourselves.
We saw you guys take the first ever JeeET tournament and the 120.00 euro prize. Can you share you experience on the tournament and the finals against Queens.
It was great to win the first JeeET tournament, unfortunately there was no prize money though. The signups were disappointing but it gave us the opportunity to face queens for the first time in an official. We took the victory 4-0 quite comfortably and were pleased with our performance. We are looking forward to the future instalments of the JeeET tournaments.
What can we expect from Anexis eSports ET team in the coming months. Any future lans, cups or leagues coming up?
Well after the disappointment that the BFB finals will not be played, we are taking place in the first Excello ET tournament which boasts 6 Zowie Swift mousepads as prizes. We are confident that we can take the victory but look forward to the challenge of possibly playing without Night and using our very talented backup FLoPJEHZ. As for the future, the lineup is here to stay and we will be taking part in any future online leagues and tournaments and hopefully any future lans that get announced with the amazing support of Anexis.
Looking at competitive gaming, ET isnt really at the top of the list. Did you ever regret choosing ET? Is there something that ET has, and the other major games don't?
It is unfortunate that ET isnt at the top, it has had it's brief moments of glory and the very famous Quakecon and at prestigious tournaments such as AEF. It is a game for me, that i cant help but enjoy. It has everything that you could want in a game, except for the support from leagues/lans/orgs which is kind of its downfall. Looking at cs 1.6 there is no reason why the game shouldnt be succesfull, even though its a very old game. I play many other games from cod4 css quakelive etc and they are all very enjoyable and unique, but nothing comes close to ET. I never regret choosing ET, the lans are something that are enjoyable for all. I know many cod4 players that rate the crossfire lans as the best due to the social aspect it has. Winning online and offline tournaments are achievements that i can carry with me until i hang up my mouse and keyboard. I only regret ET not getting the exposure it deserves. I would like to have a crack at a game like cod4 which i play from time to time, but starting fresh in a big community is something that puts me off. Maybe i can convince some of the Anexis ET players to play and give our Anexis Cod4 squad a run for their money, even if they are the best team around :P.
Where do you see ET in the future. Do you have any ideas or suggestions on maybe improving the community or competitive part?
ET has been going downhill for the past year or so. The recent switch back in formats to 6on6 has also played a part in activity/death of ET. It is sad for me to say it, but the game is running out of options at the minute. TosspoT has recently emerged back on the scene and has plans for crossfire.nu with a new version of the website being released very shortly. Also, the addition of tournaments such as BFB can only be a good thing for ET. Sadly though, i don't see ET making it past 2012 (irony about the end of the world) and we are just going to make the most of it while we can.
Winning the SAGE LAN versus Team Dignitas
Well, I guess that's it, time to wrap up the interview. Any final shoutouts?
Thanks for the interview and a big thanks to Anexis and it's sponsors for giving us the opportunity to represent such a professional and respected organisation, something that is very hard to come by in ET. A big shoutout to all the Anexis ET players, for whom if it wasn't for them still playing, i would have quit this game a long time ago.
